This is the question every seller asks themselves at one time or another. I am here to tell you that there is no surefire way to sell your house faster and at the highest price. But, there are certain things that can only help your home look its best and what almost every buyer is looking for…
#1 Declutter your House
Now this is an extreme case of clutter but let’s be honest… a home can start looking this way pretty fast. UGH! Life is busy and clutter happens.
Buyers want to be able to envision their belongings in your house. The easiest way to help them visualize this is by having the most open space available in your living areas when it is up for sale. A simple solution is to rent out a storage unit and just start packing the things you don’t use that often. You are going to move anyway, so why not start packing up some things now? Get a head start on packing and I promise you, you’ll thank me when half of your packing is already done and ready to go to your new place once your home sells!
#2 Neutral Shades are Always Better
Think about new home manufacturers – what color do they usually paint the walls in their model homes? Typically, the answer is neutral shades like the picture above.
These colors give the impression of a more pleasant, modern, clean and easy-to-match feel. I love color, but everyone is unique and has different tastes. When it comes time to owning your house, please feel free to experiment. However, when it comes time to sell your home… buyers want a neutral shade. We do want them to love your home- don’t we?!
A fresh coat of paint is not too expensive and it gives the home a new, fresh feeling. It leaves behind that “just painted” smell that buyers love!
#3 Curb Appeal
This is your home’s first impression. It needs to make a lasting one! Just putting in a little sweat equity goes a long way. Removing any debris/weeds/any dead shrubbery is essential. Also, pressure washing the exterior of your home and driveway/sidewalk is something that makes a big difference.
Adding a pop of color to the exterior of your home is a great idea too. This is easy to do with colorful flowers and plants. Don’t go over board! Just a few here and there is exactly what you need to add that pop of color.
Curb appeal is so important because sometimes buyers won’t even want to go in to a house that has an unattractive appearance from the street. This is why it is absolutely necessary to start working on these simple tips to help you along your home selling journey.
